Install a kissing gate for our alley way, regular maintence, lighting and cameras
The Issue
Dangerous use of the alley by mopeds – Mopeds are regularly being ridden through the alley at speed, with riders mounting the kerb from the road and driving directly past residents' front doors.
A serious safety risk to children and residents – Children playing and residents leaving their homes have been put at risk, with our children having narrowly avoided being hit by mopeds on multiple occasions.
Anti-social behaviour and crime concerns – The alley is used by groups to congregate and cause disturbances, and residents have witnessed it being used as an escape route following criminal activity on the estate.
Litter being blown into residents' gardens – Rubbish discarded by people visiting the nearby shops regularly blows down the alley and ends up across the front gardens of the surrounding properties.
Neglected and overgrown surroundings – The area alongside the alley is frequently left overgrown and poorly maintained, creating an unattractive and neglected appearance for what should be a pleasant residential cul-de-sac.
Loss of privacy, security and enjoyment of our homes – The current unrestricted access means residents are subjected to unnecessary foot and moped traffic immediately outside their homes.
Why This Petition Is Important
The alleyway sits at the far corner of our grassed residential cul-de-sac, an area with no access for cars or mopeds and which should be a safe environment for local families.
Unfortunately, the alley is regularly being used by mopeds travelling at speed, with riders mounting the kerb from the road and driving directly past our front doors. Our children have narrowly avoided being hit on multiple occasions when leaving the house.
The alley also brings ongoing litter, anti-social behaviour and security concerns. Rubbish from visitors to the nearby shops regularly blows into residents' gardens, while the alley is used for congregating, causing disturbances and, on occasions, as an escape route following criminal activity on the estate.
The surrounding area is also frequently overgrown and poorly maintained, making an otherwise pleasant cul-de-sac look neglected.
We are simply asking for a something to be done to make our area safe and tidy. This would help protect our children, reduce anti-social behaviour and litter, improve residents' privacy and security, and restore the cul-de-sac to the safe and peaceful environment it should be.
