Install a four-way stop or roundabout at Center Rd and Twin Church
The Issue
We are asking our community and everyone who travels through our area to join us in pushing for a 4-way stop or roundabout at this intersection before a tragedy happens.
For years we have called, emailed, and begged SCDOT to do something to slow traffic here. The speeding and wrecks have only gotten worse. Vehicles regularly fly through at 70+ mph, ignoring the danger to families, children, and animals. We have lost pets in horrific ways, and near-miss accidents happen constantly. Every day we fear that the next victim could be a child, a neighbor, or someone just passing through.
SCDOT added 45 mph signs before the crossroads, but that has done nothing to change driver behavior. We were told there have not been “enough fatalities” to justify further action—yet we refuse to wait for someone to die before this is taken seriously.
Yes, we chose to live near this intersection, but we did not choose reckless speeding, repeated crashes, and the constant fear of stepping into our own yard. Our community deserves safety, not statistics
Please help us demand real action—whether that’s a 4-way stop, a roundabout, flashing lights, or stronger enforcement. Add your voice, share this message, and stand with us before it’s too late.
The intersection at Center Road and Twin Church has become a major concern for local residents and commuters. With an increasing volume of traffic, the risk of accidents and near-misses has risen significantly in this area. Statistics from the local traffic department reveal that this intersection has witnessed a 40% rise in reported accidents over the past two years. This is an alarming figure that highlights the urgent need for a solution to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
Installing a four-way stop or a roundabout at this intersection could drastically reduce the likelihood of accidents. Traffic studies have shown that roundabouts reduce injuries from crashes by 75% compared to traditional stop sign or signal-controlled intersections. Similarly, a four-way stop would create a natural slowing of traffic, making it safer for vehicles to navigate through. These measures are not just preventive but also promote efficiencies by reducing waiting time and congestion during peak hours.
The area is surrounded by residential neighborhoods, schools, and local businesses, increasing the foot traffic and making it even more imperative to have a safe and efficient traffic control system. The installation of appropriate traffic measures would serve as a proactive step in safeguarding our community, reducing commuter stress, and protecting pedestrians and cyclists alike.
It's time to address this urgent issue before more unfortunate accidents occur. We call on the relevant city planners and local government officials to take immediate action in implementing a meaningful solution that prioritizes the safety of our community. By signing this petition, you are supporting a safer and more responsible approach to managing our community's traffic concerns at the intersection of Center Road and Twin Church.
