Install a fence at the Harry Huish off-leash park
The Issue
One of our beloved family dogs, Kota, suffered a tragic fate when she was hit by a car on the road traversing our local off-leash park. If you had the privilege of meeting Kota, you loved her. This heart-wrenching incident has not only left a void in our hearts but also highlighted the urgent need to enhance safety measures for all pets enjoying the freedom of the park.
Our park has always served as a sanctuary where dogs can run freely and play without the constraints of a leash, fostering a sense of community among pet owners. However, without adequate safety provisions such as a fence, it remains perilously close to traffic, posing a significant threat to our four-legged friends. In memory of our cherished dog, and to prevent further heartache in our community, we are advocating for the installation of a secure fence along the 20A Street break of the off-leash area.
The installation of a fence would serve multiple purposes. It will provide a definitive boundary between the park and the road, drastically reducing the risk of dogs darting into traffic. It will also ensure that pet owners can have peace of mind knowing their animals are safe while they explore the park grounds. Moreover, it would be a meaningful tribute to Kota’s memory, fostering a safer environment for animals and people alike.
We understand the time and financial aspect of asking for a fence and envision something as simple as a chainlink like the one on the 72 avenue side of the park. We can’t eradicate the issue but we can try to prevent this from happening to other furry family members. This initiative is not only feasible but necessary for safeguarding countless beloved pets in our area.
To make this vision a reality, we need your help. We urge local park authorities and the community to come together and allocate the resources needed for this project. Join us in commemorating sweet Kota and ensuring no other family experiences such a heartbreaking loss. We can’t bring her back but we can make sure this loss brings change for our pets safety in the future. Please sign this petition to support the installation of a fence at our local off-leash park. Together, we can ensure a safe and joyous environment for all pets and their owners.
