As a concerned parent and driver, I experience firsthand the dangers and frustrations that arise from the lack of a designated turning light northbound on Beaumont Avenue from Cougar Way, right in front of Mountain View Middle School. It is a perilous situation when only one car gets to turn per green light. Not only is this situation dangerous for drivers, but it also puts our children at risk as they traverse their way to and from school.

Numerous accidents and close calls have occurred at this intersection, mirroring national statistics that demonstrate around 40% of all motor vehicle accidents occur at intersections, with the majority involving turning vehicles (source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). It is worrying that such high-risk situations are so prevalent in the routes our children take daily.

Therefore, it is urgent that the city provides a safer solution by installing a designated turning light at this busy intersection. Doing so would undeniably improve the safety of road users—children, parents, and drivers alike. Our children's safety should never be compromised.
