The Issue

Every day, I witness the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals trying to cross Lisgar Avenue behind the mall, near 10 Lisgar Ave and bus stop #2. For those living with disabilities, the elderly, and families with children, navigating this busy road is not just difficult—it's a risky endeavor. This issue hits close to home for me, as I've seen loved ones struggle to safely cross despite their best efforts.

Lisgar Avenue is a key artery in our community, with a high volume of traffic at all hours. Without a safe crosswalk, we're putting the safety of some of our most vulnerable residents in jeopardy.

Installing a designated crosswalk not only serves as a physical safety measure but also promotes inclusivity in our community. It sends a powerful message that everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, deserves the right to navigate their own neighbourhood safely. Such implementation would be a straightforward and effective measure.

Many cities have successfully reduced pedestrian accidents through the strategic placement of crosswalks, reinforced by appropriate signage and lighting. Given the relatively low cost of these installations compared to the potential cost of accidents, it is a prudent investment for our local government to make.

We urge the city council and relevant authorities to prioritize this matter. By doing so, they can demonstrate a commitment to public safety and community welfare. We have an opportunity to take proactive steps before any more incidents occur.

Please join me in demanding a crosswalk at this critical point on Lisgar Avenue. Together, we can push for change that not only protects but also empowers our community. Sign the petition and help us make Lisgar Avenue safe for everyone.
