The Issue

In our community in Clinton, Utah, we have encountered dangerous situations frequently at the intersection of 1300N and 780W. The absence of a crosswalk in this area has led to multiple close calls, jeopardizing the safety of pedestrians who have no choice but to navigate traffic without proper crossing infrastructure. As residents and frequent users of this route, the closest available crosswalks at 1000W and 259W simply aren't feasible for many, unnecessarily lengthening commutes and walks, which discourages pedestrian activity.

This situation is not just a personal inconvenience; it's a safety hazard that affects everyone in our community, especially children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. According to the Federal Highway Administration, marked crosswalks can reduce pedestrian injury rate by as much as 40% in urban areas. Clinton, Is not exempt from the need for these safety measures, given its growing number of pedestrians and traffic flow.

By installing a crosswalk at 1300N and 780W, we can make a meaningful impact on pedestrian safety, encouraging more walking and biking, which is beneficial for both health and the environment. Implementing a crosswalk not only addresses immediate safety concerns but also signifies a community prioritizing the well-being of its residents.

We call on Clinton city officials and the Utah Department of Transportation to consider this critical necessity and act decisively to ensure our streets are safe for everyone. Join me in advocating for a safer neighborhood by signing this petition today.

I know all too well the problems we face at 780 W 1300 N. I live on 780 W on the southside of 1300 N and have crossed at this location multiple times to get home from my church meetings. There have been times that I had to wait several minutes for a kind driver to stop and let me cross because of the number of cars coming down the road. It seems that traffic has only increased even more because of the construction just North on 1800. I'd want to talk about the crosswalk idea if you'd like to call me at 801.614.0726 or send me an email at cdanson@clinton.utah.gov. Thank you for being involved in our community.
