The Issue

The absence of a crosswalk at the intersection of Covert Land and Teresa Court poses a significant danger for our community. Being on Teresa Court, I've witnessed firsthand how perilous it is for pedestrians, especially children and the elderly, to navigate this busy street when going to and from the bus stop as there is no sidewalk on the Teresa Court side of the street heading towards Ragle Park.

Just the other day, my father was nearly hit by a car as he attempted to cross. This incident, sadly, is just one of many that could have ended tragically. The speed at which cars travel down Covert Lane signifies a need for increased safety measures. Many parents in our community share this concern as they worry every day about their children crossing this dangerous street on their way to school.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that pedestrian fatalities are a growing concern across the country. These tragedies disproportionately affect children and the elderly. Implementing a crosswalk is a simple yet highly effective solution to enhance pedestrian safety and foster a more walkable community.

A clearly marked crosswalk would alert drivers to the presence of pedestrians and encourage them to slow down, particularly when children are accessing school transportation. In addition, it would serve as a constant reminder that our community prioritizes the safety of its residents.

We urge the local authorities and city officials to take immediate action by installing a crosswalk at the corner of Covert Lane and Teresa Court. This simple addition can prevent accidents and potentially save lives. Your signature can help make this critical safety project a priority for our local government. Please sign this petition to support the installation of a crosswalk and to keep our community safe.

Hi, I have alerted City staff to the petition and request for a crosswalk. I spoke with the Interim City Manager and the Public Works Director asking if this crosswalk can get into the cue for Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) for next year. They said a traffic engineer/study would likely be required. Thanks for the notice.
