Our neighborhood is a close-knit community where families thrive and children play freely. This sense of security is an integral part of what makes living here so special. However, a critical safety issue has become apparent at the intersection of  Benson   and  Bay 14th street, corner that has increasingly become a concern for parents and residents alike.

Every day, dozens of children from PS/IS.163 and PS.748 Elementary cross this busy intersection on their way to and from school. The volume of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic during these peak hours poses a significant hazard. Without the presence of a crossing guard, children are left to navigate this dangerous crossing unaided, increasing the risk of accidents.

A trained crossing guard would not only guide children safely across the intersection but also serve as a deterrent for dangerous driving habits. Studies have shown that the presence of a crossing guard can reduce vehicle speeds and enhance pedestrian safety significantly. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, crossing guards can decrease the likelihood of pedestrian accidents by up to 50%.

This is not just a petition for safety; it is a call to protect the vibrancy of our community. Our children deserve the same level of safety and security as in any other prosperous neighborhood.
