I am a resident of Butler, PA, and like many others, I was deeply touched by the presence of an internet-famous Christmas bush that embodied the Christmas spirit in our community. This plant brought joy and laughter to us all, reminding us of the warmth and love that this season brings.

When I first observed this small and unsanctioned insignificant plant decorated in light hearted festive lights and colors, laughter and joy overtook me in a way that made not only my day, but possibly my entire season.  To see something so insignificant standing tall and proud in full display amidst the hustle and bustle of seasonal travel and commerce was wholesome in both is absurdity and heartwarming uniqueness.  

Unfortunately, this beloved symbol was removed from its public location. The loss has been felt deeply within our community. We believe it is important to honor its memory and continue its legacy by planting a commemorative Christmas tree in its place or a safe municipal location nearby.  

A study conducted by University of Rochester shows that being around trees and nature reduces stress while increasing happiness and well-being (University of Rochester). By planting a new tree at this location, we are not only honoring our cherished plant but also promoting mental health benefits for our community members.

We urge the local government to support us in this endeavor by planting a commemorative winter hearty plant at the location of 40.87339° N, 79.94047° W in Butler Township.  Let's keep the spirit alive; let's bring back joy to our public spaces; let's plant a commemorative Christmas tree for everyone in Butler, PA to enjoy!
