Subject: Proposal Discussion – Cold Plunge Pilot at Grandview Heights

Dear Laurie, Lisa, and Team,

I’d like to extend my thanks to Rachel for taking the time to connect regarding the idea of adding a cold plunge at Grandview Heights. As part of the South Surrey Wellness Advocates, we’ve been engaging the community on potential wellness enhancements, and this has gained significant traction.

In just two days, over 200+ residents have signed a petition in support of this idea, and we anticipate that number reaching the thousands in the coming weeks. Community feedback shows that 90% of respondents are in favor, with most opposition coming from the misconception that tax dollars would fund the project.

Interest in cold exposure continues to grow, and in the past few days, a group of sauna users at Grandview has started stepping outside mid-session to make snow angels—a creative but unofficial alternative to a cold plunge. Minoru Centre in Richmond has already implemented a municipal cold plunge at 15°C, demonstrating that similar facilities are possible.

When speaking with Rachel, she mentioned that piloting a cold tub could be an option given the strong interest. We fully understand that this would need to be reviewed by engineers and architects, and we’re happy to collaborate on what this could look like.

We are not requesting a fully built-in Polar Plunge like Minoru, though we wouldn’t be opposed to it. A pilot version could be as simple as:

Replacing the shower connected to the steam room with a designated cold plunge.
Utilizing the northeast section of the building, across from the adult hot tub in the southeast corner.
Exploring other potential locations based on city recommendations.
We’d love to explore next steps—whether that means submitting a formal proposal, gathering further community input, or any guidance you can provide on how best to proceed.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to your insights.

Best regards,
South Surrey Wellness Advocates
