📢 Exciting Update – City of Surrey is Proactively Looking Into Cold Therapy Options! ❄️🔥
Over the past few weeks, we’ve had multiple conversations with Lisa White, Director of Recreation Services, on behalf of Laurie Cavan, General Manager of Parks & Recreation, regarding a cold plunge at Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre.
Here’s what we’ve learned:
✅ The City Took This Seriously – When they received our petition and emails, they immediately had an architect review the facility to assess whether a cold plunge could be added.
✅ Why a Cold Plunge Can’t Be Added Right Now – Due to Fraser Health’s deck space requirements, adding a plunge would require a building expansion, which isn’t currently in the budget.
✅ Cold Therapy Options ARE Coming – While a full cold plunge may not be possible right now, the City is looking into cold and colder shower options with upgraded pressure and potentially rainfall features near the sauna and steam room.
✅ Timing for Changes – Grandview Heights will be temporarily closed in September, and this is when the City will review and potentially implement these upgrades.
✅ Future Cold Plunge Facilities in Surrey:
The upcoming Newton Community Centre (opening in 2028) WILL include a cold plunge.
The City is actively planning for a new Grandview-area facility within the next 5 years, and cold therapy options will be included in the design.
What This Means for Us
🚀 Our voices have been heard! The City has taken real action by bringing in experts and is actively working on solutions for cold exposure therapy in both short-term and long-term facility planning.
🔥 This wouldn’t have happened without community support. The more we push for wellness upgrades, the more likely we are to see future enhancements sooner rather than later.
👀 What’s Next? The City wants the community to know that they’re listening and responding. As discussions continue, we’ll keep everyone updated on official plans as they’re finalized.
