Allow Musicians to Play Classical Music on Instagram Live

UPDATE: Just learned that this issue has been going on for over 2 months, not only in the past week. This has been going on for too long.

Recently, Instagram has been stopping musicians from playing classical music on Instagram Live.  I personally have experienced this: while in the middle of live streaming myself playing Mozart Rondo and Beethoven Piano Sonatas, Instagram abruptly ends my live streams, claiming "because it may contain music, audio, or video that belongs to someone else."  Problem is, it didn't, and neither did the other classical musicians's Instagram live streams of their playing.

I have reported this problem to Instagram already, but this issue has persisted for a week without any response from them, hence this petition in hopes of getting their attention. My wonderful classical music followers have informed me of similar issues on other musicians' live streams and no one to my knowledge has gotten any response from Instagram.

The reason I joined social media was to share my love of classical music with a larger global audience, as I imagine it is for many other classical musicians.  Even if a week is not enough to fix this copyright issue, I believe we the classical music community would appreciate a response from Instagram to quickly resolve this issue.

What makes live streams exciting to me is the ability to interact and play for an audience in real-time, as if we are faced-to-faced at a concert.  It allows musicians to build a special human connection with their audiences while also sharing beautiful classical music.  A week is a long time to not be able to do that. [UPDATE: that this has been ongoing for at least 2 months is way too long and absolutely absurd.]

If you love classical music, whether you enjoy listening or playing, I hope you'll join me and support this petition.

Thank you!

Cheers, Tiffany
