Insist on International Recognition of 'Gulf of Mexico,' Not 'Gulf of America'

The Issue

Frustration about a ridiculous suggestion has driven me to initiate a change. Donald Trump's misguided idea that the 'Gulf of Mexico' should be referred to as 'Gulf of America' is an affront to educated people everywhere, and it's a reflection of his general ignorance. We cannot allow facts and recognized names to be skewed by people in power simply for the satisfaction of their own over-inflated egos.

The Gulf of Mexico, as it is internationally recognized, spans the United States, Mexico, and Cuba, covering about 600,000 square miles. It’s not solely American – it's a shared habitat, rich in biodiversity and vital to many economies around the world. Let's not overlook the Gulf's socio-economic importance as it supports major industries such as fishing, tourism, and oil production, benefiting multiple nations, not just one.

Hence, it's vital that we maintain the correct, internationally recognized terminology. I urge you to join us in asking the United Nations and the relevant international geographical bodies to insist on continuing to recognize the 'Gulf of Mexico' as such, not the 'Gulf of America.'

By signing this petition, you're standing for fact over folly, common sense over egomania, embracing shared resources, and promoting international recognition and cooperation. So, stand with us; preserve the legitimate name 'Gulf of Mexico.'
