Insist on Enhanced Monitoring for Convicted Paedophile Darren Goddard

The Issue

For the past thirteen years, my life has been devoted to the safety and protection of children from predators. Today, a devastating setback has taken place. The Pietermaritzburg High Court, presided over by Justice Katy Pillay, made the undesirable decision to place convicted serial paedophile, Darren Goddard, under house arrest.
Alarmingly, there are no stringent measures in place. There's no ankle monitor, no guards, no provisions to ensure Goddard stays confined. This dangerously lax supervision grants him unrestricted access to the internet where he can download and disseminate child pornography, posing a severe threat to our community - especially our children.

The decision made by the High Court undermines the severity of the paedophilia crime, belittles the trauma suffered by victims, and sunders public confidence in our justice system. It is essential to note that re-offence rates for convicted paedophiles are staggeringly high, with a study indicating that 50% of paedophiles re-offend within five years if they do not receive treatment within a correctional facility (Dennis, 2007).

Thus, we need to act now. Given the urgency and gravity of the situation, we implore the Department of Justice to review the conditions of Darren Goddard's house arrest. Stricter surveillance measures must be put into effect, including but not limited to, an ankle monitor, restricted network access, coupled with regular and unmitigated supervision. Preferably he should return to jail.

We owe it to our society, to our children. Please lend your voice to this cause and sign this petition today. Let the Justice Department know that we demand a more stringent course of action.
