Hey Cordova residents,

I wanted to take a moment to give an important update on Cordova’s de-annexation petition. I know it’s been a while since the last official update back in February, but I wanted to share where things currently stand and thank all of you for your continued support.

It’s honestly amazing to see how far this has come—the number of signatures we’ve received, the support from our neighbors, and the love from the heart of Cordova has been incredible. This petition isn’t just about change—it’s about making sure our community is heard and that every resident understands what de-annexation could actually look like.

Right now, we are still in the stage of gauging interest, gathering signatures, and educating our community. This is just the beginning. We want everyone to be fully informed on what the process would be if Cordova were to one day de-annex from the City of Memphis and potentially form its own municipality.

Just like South Cordova went through the process of de-annexation a few years ago—though they are now part of unincorporated Shelby County—we’re doing the necessary studying and planning to understand how things could work for the rest of Cordova. We’re working on developing a balanced plan between the City of Memphis and Cordova that, if this moves forward, benefits both sides.

To everyone who has shared the petition with friends, family, and neighbors—thank you. Some people in Cordova may not have even known about this effort, and your help in spreading the word is how our voice gets stronger. This is about more than signatures—it’s about believing in what Cordova could become if given the opportunity.

We know some may say it’s not possible—but we believe that with strong community support, clear information, and love for where we live, it is possible. Every signature adds to that momentum.

We’re currently approaching 2,000 signatures, and that’s incredible progress. I’m also working on reaching out to local news outlets again, and I’ll keep you updated on any new coverage or developments.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out by email at cordova.deannexationpetition@gmail.com. I’ll be happy to respond and help clarify anything.

Thank you again, Cordova, for your strength, your unity, and your love for our community.

With appreciation,

Luis
