Initiate Debate in Parliament Regarding Nationalisation of Driver's Licensing

The Issue

Our journey started with an insurmountable barrier of £2500, the intimidating paywall standing between us and our right to obtain a driver's license. This personal struggle has ignited in us the desire to change the system. It's not just about one individual; it's about countless citizens who find themselves in the same predicament.

This issue needs to be addressed urgently, leading us to request parliamentary institutions, namely Parliament, the Senedd, Holyrood, and Stormont, to discuss the subject of nationalising the acquisition of driver's licenses.

In the UK, driving lessons cost on average £24 per hour, and with the DVSA recommending 47 hours of practice, the total cost reaches a staggering £1128, not including the separate costs of the theory and practical tests (source: RAC). Many individuals simply cannot shoulder these financial burdens, which puts the ability to drive—a necessity for many jobs and lifestyle needs—out of reach for many, reinforcing socio-economic inequality.

This unjust system must be dismantled. Let's unite to bring the issue of nationalising the process of obtaining a driver's license to the table, ensuring equal access for all citizens. We must work towards inclusivity, fairness, and economic justice.

Sign this petition today to help us bring this matter to the forefront of our parliamentary discussions, supporting all those who are deprived of their right to drive due to financial constraints.
