Initiate a Drainage Improvement Project for Ozone Park Drive, Covington LA
The Issue
Our neighborhood, Ozone Park Drive in Covington, LA is home to long-time residents, some of whom have been here since the street was originally developed. These are good and kind people who live here, many of whom are elderly and need the ability of access and egress to their street when it rains, especially if there were to be a medical emergency.
The lack of an effective drainage system has caused significant problems for our community. We believe that a capital improvement project focused on drainage would greatly enhance the quality of life for all residents and ensure safety during periods of heavy rainfall. The City of Covington Public Works has been very responsive and helpful in getting temporary relief by clearing ditches and addressing overgrown brush, but we believe it is now time for the state to step in to initiate a drainage improvement project in the area.
According to data from the U.S Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS), nearly 16% of Covington's population is aged 65 or older. This demographic often requires more frequent medical attention and therefore needs reliable access routes at all times - something that is currently compromised by inadequate drainage systems during periods of heavy rain.
We urge state authorities, LA DOTD, or anyone else who has the power to make these decisions to prioritize this issue by initiating a capital improvement project specifically aimed at improving the drainage system in our neighborhood. By doing so, they will not only be ensuring better living conditions for current residents but also making Ozone Park Drive an attractive place for future generations who might want to call this place home.
Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer and more livable neighborhoods through improved infrastructure.
