The dissolution of the Lockerbie Community Council has left a void in our local governance. This happened because the number of elected councillors fell below the minimum permitted, leaving us without an essential democratic institution that was personal to me and many others.

The Lockerbie Community Council played a crucial role in representing our community's interests, making key decisions, and ensuring transparency in local governance. It is not just about filling seats; it's about restoring our voice and ensuring that we have representation at all levels of government.

According to Scotland's Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, community councils are fundamental elements of local democracy. They provide a means for people within the community to voice their opinions on any matter affecting their lives, their welfare, their environment, its development and amenity. Without it, we risk losing this vital platform for public participation.
