Police officers, who are hired "to protect and serve", are becoming less concerned about the welfare of the people they should be protecting, and the communities that they are meant to serve, and MORE concerned with abusing their power.

On September 12, 2012, 30-year old Aarona Browning was on her way home around 2am, when she was stopped by Officers Kearney and Shaw of the Inglewood Police department, for her expired registration. What should have been a routine traffic stop, complete with her providing the necessary documentation for her registration, ending in a simple citation, quickly turned into a frightening physical altercation.

During her stop, and regardless of her COMPLETE cooperation, these two MALE officers took it upon themselves to physically and verbally assault Aarona, put her in handcuffs and tow her car, all without reason. The assault escalated even further once she respectfully requested to retrieve her work clothes out of her car before it was towed.

The Inglewood Police Department is notorious for their disgustingly violent treatment of the citizens of the city, especially black women. They are known for often resorting to excessive, and sometimes deadly, force against unarmed, non-threatening citizens, with absolutely no recourse for the officers involved. It is time that this comes to an end. These officers need to be held accountable for their actions. This situation is well beyond a simple apology, they deserve to be disciplined to the fullest extent, with either their badges being suspended, or them being released from the force altogether.

We need to stand together and fight this kind of treatment. This situation is bigger than the IPD, as it happens all over the country, on a regular basis, with absolutely no attention being called to officer's misconduct, therefore no consequences are to have been had.
