The ability of more than 2.2 million Australian students to choose how and where to study is at risk this Federal Election.

More than 57% of higher education and training students in Australia choose to study with private providers. Private providers are a vital element of a competitive industry delivering the skills, education and training that Australia needs, and employing more than 100,000 people across Australia.

However, that choice is under threat.

ALP policy to position TAFE as the dominant provider of training to Australian students is not the answer to skills and training reform and would wind back more than 20 years of reform in education and training.

The Coalition is yet to provide clarity about the future role of TAFE and private higher education and training should they be re-elected and must guarantee that student choice remains central to any reform.
