If you haven't already heard, we wanted to say THANK YOU -- WE DID IT!!

The Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) voted in favor of putting Cronobacter sakazakii infections on the Nationally Notifiable Diseases List, which already includes other foodborne pathogens, including E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria. The nationally notifiable list consists of about 120 illnesses, and is managed by the CSTE and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Although Cronobacter sakazakii infections are considered rare, no one is exactly sure as there is little data and research associated with this pathogen. Minnesota and Michigan are currently the only states reporting Cronobacter infections to the CDC. This change will formally go into effect in 2024, and those numbers and data will become more readily available.

Thank you for your commitment to making food safer to every consumer – young and old!
