Indy Animal Abuse Stops Now!

The Issue

The City of Indianapolis and the State of Indiana have very limited animal welfare laws, and no backyard breeding laws. Animals are ending up in the wrong hands.

Deron is a perfect example. Deron's story is gut-wrenching and heart-breaking. He was a loving dog that was so excited to find his forever home, until that was a house of horrors. He was tortured and killed by his adopters because they could, because the City of Indianapolis and the State of Indiana failed him. Deron is not the only one. He will not be the last one unless we demand a change.

There is a simple fix that could help these precious, innocent souls. Require all shelters (public and private) to run a free Indiana background check (available on MyCase) before the adopter is able to leave the shelter. Adoption counselors want to be able to ensure that an animal is going to a loving, caring forever home, and should be able to prevent persons with animal abuse and multiple violent convictions from adopting. If we choose not to make a change the City's animals will never be able to feel the love they very much desire and deserve.
