Induct Thurman Munson into the Baseball Hall of Fame

Induct Thurman Munson into the Baseball Hall of Fame
During the 1970s, Thurman Munson was among the top three catchers in major league baseball. He was named to seven all-star teams, respected by his peers and was the heart and soul of the Yankee championship teams of that era. When viewed through the prism of modern baseball analytics, Thurman Munson had an incredible decade of dominance from 1970 to 1979 that matches up with other catchers in the hall of fame.
Munson HOF has been formed to launch a campaign to have Munson inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2019- the 40th anniversary of his tragic death. The Munson HOF Campaign was formally launched by on February 4th at the Annual Thurman Munson Awards Dinner. Yankee Broadcaster Michael Kay made the announcement.
On June 7th, the Munson HOF package- the brief for his candidacy- was submitted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and distributed to the 11-person Historical Overview Committee which is responsible for selecting the names for the ballot that will be considered in December 2019 by the Modern Baseball Era Committee (the Old Timers Committee). The Historical Overview Committee usually completes the ballot in September. The Munson HOF package is posted on our website: www.munsonhof.com
While the Historical Overview Committee is reviewing the Munson HOF Committee plans to organize several events to publicize the Munson HOF Campaign and gather support.
The First event was on June 23rd when a contingent of Thurman's Army attended Old Timers Day. Those in attendance wore Munson HOF T-shirts and displayed Munson HOF banners throughout Yankee Stadium. Michael Kay mentioned the presence of the Munson HOF Committee in the eighth inning of the broadcast of the game with the Houston Astros and urged Yankee fans to sign the petition.
The Munson HOF Committee will also be attending the Friday night game on August 2nd against the Red Sox to observe the 40th year since Thurman's passing. On August 3rd, the HOF Committee will also be attending the afternoon game and there will be a memorial rally at Macombs Dam Park after the game.
On November 3rd, Thurman Munson will be inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame. The event which we hole will be the launching pad for his induction into Cooperstown will be held in Troy, New York. Many of his former teammates will be in attendance along with the Munson family. Tickets are still available for this event. Please let us know if you would like to purchase a ticket
What can you do? First, please sign the petition and tell us in your own words why you think Thurman Munson belongs in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. After you sign the petition, ask your friends and family to sign it. But hurry- we will be submitting the petition to the National Baseball Hall of Fame Historical Overview Committee in August as part of our final push to get Thurman selected to the Ballot.
