Induct Dave Mason as a solo artist into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

The Issue

Dave Mason was rightfully inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of Traffic. Yet his influential and enduring solo career—one that helped shape the sound of 1970s rock—remains unrecognized. This omission overlooks a body of work that clearly meets the Hall’s criteria for individual induction.

After Traffic, Mason emerged as a major solo artist with landmark albums such as Alone Together and Headkeeper, and timeless songs including “Only You Know and I Know” and “We Just Disagree.” These were not side projects, but defining contributions to rock music that continue to resonate today.

Just as important, Dave Mason built a lasting bond with fans through over 60 years of continuous touring. Few artists have shown such longevity, dedication, and relevance on the road, performing for generations and keeping the spirit of classic rock alive.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has repeatedly honored artists whose solo careers stand independently from their band work, including Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Ringo Star, Lou Reed, Jeff Beck, Stevie Nicks, Rod Stewart, Peter Gabriel, and Phil Collins. Dave Mason’s solo legacy clearly meets this same standard.

We respectfully urge the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee to recognize Dave Mason’s outstanding solo career with an individual induction. His influence, artistry, and lifelong commitment to fans deserve nothing less.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
