With the escalating violence affecting the city of Indianapolis it is up to its citizens to stand up and show our dissatisfaction with the way IMPD has dealt with the ever increasing crime rate. We do this first and foremost by asking them to re-invest their time as well as re-establish some of the youth based programs such as PAL to help build a better connection with the rising generation, whom they have lost touch with. We are also asking them to advocate a stronger sensitivity to the ever increasing crime rate by not allowing the media, most recently FOX59, to exploit the victims and families of the victims. This comes about concerning the most recent incident where FOX59 aired video surveillance footage of a homicide in progress. This footage was aired during prime-time television with no regard to the victims or families of the victims, this is not something that should be acceptable or allowed in our city or any other for that matter. Another way to help decrease the violence and crime rates in the city would be for IMPD to create a public service announcement that could be aired on local stations where they demonstrate proper police etiquette when dealing with police officers. We are a city living in fear. Fear of each other, fear of the media and fear of the persons who are supposed to protect and serve us. These are just a few of the steps that can help bridge the gap between fear of living in our city and living without fear in our city.
