Petition: 2020-SE2-002 submitted to City of Indianapolis Planners

THIS MUST BE STOPPED.

Reasons why we must stop this, contact information and public hearing information.

This small area of Perry Township has remained largely unchanged in the way of development requiring a rezone hearing; the last time was 1995-1996 when Perry Meridian Middle School appealed to rezone multiple parcels on the east side of Laverne Drive from residential to special use for the middle school. Also, in 1995 the Fox Ridge Subdivision was approved to build out 35 lots on 11.91 acres of old vacant farm land, BUT the rezone happened in 1991. This required the tearing down of an abandoned farm house that sat too close to Rahke Rd. The home it’s self had become a nuisance property for local teens to hang out, and the future development required filling in a small pond near to end of Forest Park Drive. Prior to that in 1977 Southern Oaks was approved for 93 lots on 35.2 acres, and 1969 Hillvalley was approved for 34 lots on 17.7 acres.
Perry Meridian High School’s construction was announced in 1971 and opened the fall of 1973. And finally, St Barnabas Catholic Church built their parish in 1965. That’s going back 7 decades.

The City of Indianapolis Metropolitan Board of Zoning Appeals seems to look at those reports and think the quiet, older residential area has not shaped the way of life for the residents and long time homeowners in the area, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Watching the breakneck pace at which the southside, specifically Perry Township has been tearing down large trees and foliage to erect throwaway unsightly architecture is heartbreaking, but now to do it and remove the tax base for our public schools? THIS MAKES NO SENSE. There are commercial properties in abundance throughout Perry Township that require none of the infrastructure or rezoning that this petition is seeking, and would be greatly improved with the level of involvement the Indy Zion Baptist Church is seeking to do to a single family home residential property in the middle of a quiet part of Perry Township.
