Hi everyone! Danielle here. I wanted to first take a moment to thank everyone for joining this campaign. When I started this petition I was hoping to get a few hundred signatures--it is mind-boggling to think that in 2 weeks that number is now over 227,000! After Angel’s death, I knew I had to do whatever I could to make sure this never happened to another family, and I am so inspired to see so many people joining the fight. I’m so grateful for everyone’s support for the campaign, and I wanted to give you a few updates on our great progress. Thanks to your support, we’ve convinced SB 500’s author to eliminate most of the language in the bill that would impact bullying and harassment protocols and programs in schools! It is an amazing achievement, but there is still more to be done. A vote on SB 500 is going to happen any day, so it is very important that we keep up the momentum! The text of SB 500 is over 300 pages long, and it still contains a laundry list of cuts to essential school programs that will seriously impact the safety and security of our kids, including: -Removing requirements for schools to report incidences of bullying -Removing requirements for schools to report incidences of students found with weapons on school grounds -Removing requirements for teachers to be trained in suicide prevention and awareness programs This bill is bad for schools, bad for our kids, and sets a dangerous precedent for the rest of the country. That is why we need your help to continue putting pressure on the legislature to not pass this bill. Please join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #StopSB500, and continue to share the petition with your friends and family. Thank you so much for your continued support. Danielle
