Increase Wages for Adjunct Faculty

Increase Wages for Adjunct Faculty
The Issue
As an adjunct faculty member at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne University, I have been entrusted with teaching 5 sections of a course for a payout accumulating to less than $12,000.00 annually. Adjunct faculty members in the state of Indiana consistently earn less than a desirable amount to stay at or above the poverty level. Given the extraordinary sacrifices to achieve personal higher educational goals, and the expectations to obtain an adjunct position; compensation for these expectations must be considered to maintain the best educators at our Universities. If salaries can be increased: Adjunct members will be persuaded to continue excellent educations to our students, be allowed to maintain safe and sterile living conditions, communities will statistically show improved demographics and educational excellence, and basic living conditions will be comfortably obtained, instead of fought for.
