Stop confinement farm and preserve the environment

Stop confinement farm and preserve the environment
The Issue
A proposal has been made for a new hog confinement farm in Carroll County, Indiana. This new structure will be hazardous and detrimental to the residents of not only the immediate radius of the farm, but for those who live down stream. This farm will have water run-off filled with manure which would flow into nearby tributaries (Rock Creek) and ultimately into adjacent rivers (Wabash River).
Rock Creek and the Wabash River and their water quality will be impacted by run-off from this confinement farm. The environment and wildlife are at stake. Recreational activities such as fishing and swimming will be impacted.
Additionally, the air quality will be impacted. Nearby residences have pre-existing health considerations that will be more immediately impacted.
Please help us stop the hog confinement farm from negatively impacting the health of the environment and our community.
Location: Rock Creek Township, Carroll County (Section 32, T26N, R1W)

Neighbor’s Concerns:
- Inadequate roads. What we have now will be obliterated. Does the county have the funds to support the building of new roads to support this business with the current fiscal situation?
- Heavy construction equipmet – concrete, steel, other building materials for 2 quads
- Feed trucks
- Semi trucks for animal shipments in and out
- Semi tankers for waste removal
- Devaluation of our property
- Our water supply – well water tables
- How many gallons per day needed/used – not just for hog’s drinking water but also for cleaning, etc.
- Manure application – where, how and when
- Proposed site is close to an open ditch which empties into Rock Creek
- Compost (dead hogs)
- Air quality – health effects, manure odors, particles in the air
- There are other locations for the proposed Confined Feeding Operation (CFO) with better roads
- Put it where he lives
- Another location is directly off a highway for an access road
