Udupi being one of the most important city of Karnataka and yet not having the passenger train facility is something worrisome. People from Udupi,Kundapura and Byndoor who have temporarily settled in Bangalore for the purpose of job , business, higher education etc… find it difficult to travel due to the unavailability of the train facility. There are many Govt and Private buses in the night time. Govt buses are not much flexible to travel for long distances and the Private buses charge a high fare. Higher costs are not affordable for the public.
So, we are requesting train facility from Bangalore to Byndoor/Udupi. A train is already availed in this route i.e. Yeshvantpur Karwar Express (via kunigal) - 16515 which arrives only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and takes about 14 hours to reach Byndoor from Bangalore (a distance of 610Km). This train is not currently operational and runs only in certain seasons.
Mookambika Road Byndoor (Code: BYNR) is the main railway station in Udupi . It serves Byndoor , Kundapura and some small towns which is 5 to 10 kilometers away from the station. This station connects the city to the prominent state capitals of India like, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram (via Southern Railway), Mumbai (via Konkan Railways) and so forth. Rail connectivity in Byndoor was established in 1997 but still it is underdeveloped and only 15 trains arrive daily and station condition is also not good.
