This petition has been started to request our Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, to consider replacing the sectarian name Hindu / Hinduism in our constitution with the universal, secular, and original name Sanatana Dharma.

This can open up doors of universal peace and unity among all nations. Every nation, every leader, every human being on this planet can be united under the banner of Sanatana Dharma. The words Hindu, Muslim, and Christian create divisions and conflict among humans. But all these problems can be resolved by going back to the original Sanatana Dharma of all humans beings (eternal religion).

Sanatana Dharma is is the original name of what is now popularly called Hinduism or Hindu Dharma. The term Hinduism is of recent origin, and the more accurate and secular term is Sanatana Dharma. It a way of living through which any human being can achieve enlightenment irrespective of nationality, religion, caste, creed, and language.

Sanatana Dharma represents much more than just a religion; rather, it provides its followers with an entire worldview, a way of life and with a coherent and rational view of reality.

What is Sanatana Dharma?

Sanatana Dharma does not denote a creed like Hinduism or Christianity or Islam, but represents a value system that has spiritual oneness at its core. Any pathway or spiritual vision that accepts the spiritual oneness among all human beings may be considered as a part and parcel of Sanatana Dharma.

First and foremost, Sanatana Dharma is anadi (without beginning) and also a-paurusheya (without a human founder). It is defined as the quest for the cosmic truth, just as the quest for physical truth is defined as science.

Its earliest record is the Rig veda, which is a record of ancient sages, who by every means tried to learn the truth about the universe, in relation to Man's place in the cosmos. They saw nature — including all living and non-living things — as part of the same reality, and as pervaded by a higher consciousness or God consciousness.

This search has no historical beginning; nor does it have a historical founder. This is not to say that the Rig veda always existed as a literary work. It means that we cannot point to a particular time or person in history and say: "Before this man spoke, Rig veda did not exist."

Sanatana Dharma can bring about World peace and World unity because:

1. It has God-consciousness as the center or foundation.
2. It is wisdom based rather than belief based.
3. It is without any beginning or ending, and it is for all human beings, all over this planet. It shows a path which everyone can follow.
