It's more than two years since CongressHands started the petition. Today Rahul Gandhi is the President of the Congress Party. As a national democratic party Mr. Rahul Gandhi must bring change to the party.  A few things that Mr. Rahul Gandhi must bring back to the party are:

• As a President of the Party and also as a member of the Gandhi family, Mr. Rahul Gandhi has a responsibility to bring about a change in the party to make it more democratic. The post of party president should have a tenure and elections must held to the post after the tenure or after a election defeat. Plain and simple. The party should not just wait for a member of Gandhi family to take the party president post, but also bring about opportunities for a common party worker to the lead party. Mr. Rahul Gandhi as a member of the Gandhi family should be the agent of this particular change, otherwise this will never happen.
• The Congress Seva Dal, which is the grassroots frontal organization of the Congress party, hardly has any real presence. Its local chapters are all but vanishing in all the states of the Indian Union. As the Indian National Congress introspects to reasons for electoral decline in the previous years, it would be a great opportunity for the party to reach masses by building a strong modern progressive pan-India Congress Seva Dal.
• Remember, during the 16th Lok Sabha elections, Indian National Congress for the first time in Indian history adopted a process to choose 15 of its candidates through a democratic process called “primaries”? Though idea of primaries was a great initiative, it needs to be rationalized to enhance its reach to grass root level. A greater number of registered voters derived from the Block, Booth and Panchayat level less likely to be get manipulated in comparison to the criteria used where most of the office bearers are likely to vote usual suspects because of allegiance caused by association.

Many issues raised in this petition are still relevant today. If Indian National Congress party doesn’t form the new central government then in all honesty someone other than Gandhi family should take the party forward. A priority today for the party irrespective of the result is to limit the Party president tenure to two terms of 2 years. The party must evolve and change for today's India.
