Dont Stop Bullfight in Tamilnadu, Its our Culture and life of a Bull

The Issue

Jallikattu or Sallikattu -சல்லிகட்டு or Eruthazhuvuthal -ஏருதழுவுதல் is a bull-taming sport played in Tamil Nadu as a part of Pongal celebration. It is one of the oldest in the modern era. Although it sounds similar to the Spanish running of the bulls, it is completely different. In Jallikattu, the bull is not killed and the 'matadors' are not supposed to use any weapon. It is held in the villages of Tamil Nadu as a part of the village cultural festivals held from January to July, every year. The one held in Alanganallur, near Madurai, is one of the more popular events. This sport is also known as "Manju Virattu", meaning "chasing the bull".

Training of jallikattu bulls: the calves that are chosen to become jallikattu bulls are fed a nutritious diet so they develop into strong, sturdy beasts. The bulls are made to swim for exercise. The calves, once they reach adolescence are taken to small jallikattu events to familiarise them with the atmosphere. Specific training is given to vadam manju virattu bulls to understand the restraints of the rope. Apart from this, no other training is provided to jallikattu bulls.

The Indian Supreme Court has banned a version of bull fighting which has been popular for centuries in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The Supreme Court had previously banned the practice in January 2008, but reversed its order four days later, saying the sport could be allowed if certain guidelines were followed. Now, the pongal celebrations are very near and we need our cultural sport, which is more than 2,000 years old and is an integral part of Tamil culture.

#This is the special variety of bull, and if this Jallikattu fail or not happen, the man who maken the bull for this occation, what he will do? Either he will sell it for beef man??? Is it the way for saving animals?

#Is bull is the only animal to banned in functions?? If so, why the Kerala temple functions, using elephants?? Bull is used in our culture from past as friend of farmers and you are banning it. But why not elephant in temples and horse in military?

#Tamil culture has the habit of devoting the Bulls and we always make it as family member. Stop the ban and jallikattu is a sacrosanct Indian tradition, mentioned in ancient scriptures. Please take necessary action and bring back jallikattu!!!

Else, ban elephant in temples, Horse in Military, Monkeys in Research

Please help us in save our Culture
