Why this petition matters

Started by Sakshi Sakshi

Television actor Pearl Puri was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Friday for allegedly raping a 5-year-old. The complaint was lodged my victim's father and he is booked under Sections 376 AB (punishment for rape of woman under 12 years of age) of the Indian Penal Code, and Sections 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault), 8 (punishment for sexual assault), 12 (punishment for sexual harassment), 19 (reporting of offences) and 21 (punishment for failure to report or record a case) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

After the said events many indian television celebrities came in support of actor, but limits are crossed when few of them say, Karishma Tanna (who told about victim's details in an interview), Divya Kumar Khosla (posted picture of victim along with family on Instagram) had published rape victim's and her family details on social media. It is to noted that according to 228A. Disclosure of identity of the victim of certain offences etc, anyone publishing the name of a rape victim is liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years and shall also be liable to fine.

We request indian government and judiciary to please look into the matter and protect the rights of a minor and her privacy.

Thank you!
