Petition for Accountability and Reform in India's Ministry of Education

I personally know people who have tragically lost their lives due to self-harm following the immense academic pressure they faced. While no single event can explain every tragedy, the stress associated with high-stakes examinations, controversies surrounding examination administration, and uncertainty about students' futures have deeply affected countless families. This heartbreaking reality highlights the urgent need for meaningful reform within India's education system.

In recent years, confidence in the Ministry of Education has been shaken by repeated controversies. Students across India have been forced to cope with examination-related crises that have disrupted their education and eroded trust in the system.

The NEET-UG paper leak controversy raised serious concerns about the integrity and security of one of India's most important entrance examinations. Millions of students spend years preparing for NEET, and any compromise of its fairness undermines the efforts of every honest candidate.

Similarly, controversies surrounding the UGC-NET examination, including its cancellation in 2024 after concerns emerged about the integrity of the examination process, further weakened public confidence. Students preparing for higher education and academic careers deserve examinations that are secure, transparent, and beyond question.

Students have also repeatedly expressed concerns regarding CBSE evaluation and checking practices. Many have reported inconsistencies in marking, difficulty obtaining clear explanations for awarded marks, and a lack of transparency in the evaluation and re-evaluation process. While every examination system may have occasional errors, students deserve a system that is consistent, accountable, and transparent.

Beyond these issues, students continue to face:

Examination leaks and security failures.
Lack of transparency during major examination controversies.
Delays, uncertainty, and inconsistent communication.
Limited accountability when systemic failures occur.
Growing mental health pressures created by an intensely competitive education system.
Our nation deserves an education system that empowers and supports every student. Instead, many students, parents, and educators feel anxious, frustrated, and unheard. Trust in the Ministry's ability to safeguard the integrity of India's education system has been significantly weakened.

It is time for accountability and meaningful reform.

We call upon the Government of India to introduce decisive changes that restore public confidence in the Ministry of Education. This includes leadership that demonstrates transparency, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to protecting students' interests.

We further demand:

Stronger safeguards to prevent examination leaks.
Independent investigations into major examination irregularities.
Greater transparency in CBSE evaluation and re-evaluation processes.
Improved communication with students during examination crises.
Greater investment in student mental health and counselling.
Meaningful consultation with students, teachers, and education experts before implementing major educational reforms.
India's students deserve an education system built on fairness, integrity, transparency, and accountability. Every student should be able to walk into an examination hall knowing that success depends solely on merit, not on systemic failures.
