The Issue

As parents at Van Hise Elementary School in Madison, WI, we've witnessed firsthand the negative impact of Principal Rebecca Stein's management on our children's education. Over the past two years, our children have struggled with instability in their classrooms, disrupting their learning experiences and diminishing the invaluable support offered by organizations like the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).

Teachers, parents, and students have expressed concerns about the school's culture under the current leadership. Alarmingly, the turnover rate of staff at Van Hise is more than double the district average, which not only affects the continuity of our children's education but also the morale of the remaining staff. Furthermore, reports of perceived and experienced retaliation have created an environment of fear and distrust. Parents and Teachers no longer feel there is a safe space to provide constructive feedback on these concerns, ones about school policy or school safety.

Parents have sent feedback to Ms Stein, her superior (Dr Hoffman), school leadership and the board of education.  They have met with a number of these leaders.  Despite these issues being highlighted, no significant changes have been made by the administration over the last two years. We believe a swift and independent review of Principal Stein's management  and subsequent action plan is crucial in addressing these concerns and ensuring a positive and safe educational environment for all students at Van Hise Elementary.

Please join us in advocating for this critical review to restore confidence and hope in our school's ability to nurture and educate our children effectively.  In addition to a review, we are asking administration to provide actionable milestones and feedback mechanisms to the community to ensure change is occurring swiftly.

Sign the petition to call for immediate action and support a brighter future for Van Hise Elementary School.
