I am a young Californian who has always admired the beauty of our national parks and landscapes. However, I have also witnessed the devastation caused by wildfires year after year. These fires not only threaten our environment but also make many communities fearful of living in high-risk areas.

One major factor contributing to wildfires is California’s aging power lines and electrical infrastructure, which have sparked several catastrophic fires. We need immediate action to prevent future disasters by investing in stronger wildfire prevention measures and upgrading our electrical grid.

I call on California’s leaders to:

Enhance wildfire prevention by increasing funding for controlled burns and vegetation management.
Foster better forest management collaboration between state, federal, and local agencies to improve long-term solutions.
Upgrade aging power infrastructure to prevent electrical sparks from igniting wildfires, including investing in underground power lines where feasible.
Expand community wildfire safety programs to ensure residents have evacuation plans and fire-resistant housing support.
California must act now to protect our people, wildlife, and natural beauty. Wildfire prevention is not just a response—it’s an investment in our state’s future.
