Increase Train Frequency in Medway for Better Commute

The Issue

As a student living in Gillingham, I often miss my train due to school timings. This disruption causes me to get home late at least once a week, impacting my learning and overall quality of life. The current train schedule across Medway, particularly in Gillingham, allows trains to arrive and depart every 30 minutes. This infrequency is not only inconvenient but also hinders the daily routines of many residents like myself.

We propose that trains should arrive and depart more frequently - ideally every 15 minutes instead of the current 30-minute interval. Such an adjustment would significantly improve commute times and reduce instances of missed trains due to minor delays or unforeseen circumstances.

The importance of public transportation cannot be overstated. According to the UK Department for Transport's statistics from 2019, over half (53%) of all public transport journeys were made by rail (source: Department for Transport). By increasing train frequency in our area, we can ensure that this vital service meets the needs of its users more effectively.

This change is not just about convenience; it's about ensuring access to education, work opportunities, healthcare services and social activities - all crucial aspects contributing towards a better quality of life.

Let us come together as a community to call on our local authorities for this much-needed improvement in our public transportation system. Please sign this petition if you believe in better commuting options for everyone living or working across Medway.
