Every week, many of us diligently dedicate six hours of our time to our lab assignments as we believe in the importance of hands-on learning and its invaluable role in our education. However, despite this substantial commitment, these labs only account for 20% of our final grade. This disproportionately low weightage overlooks our efforts and underestimates the essential skills we master in our lab sessions. Therefore, we are seeking a fairer evaluation system that proportionately reflects the time and energy we invest in these labs. We propose increasing the weightage of labs to 50% of our final grade. In fact, the National Survey of Student Engagement highlights that intensive, hands-on practical courses improve students' learning outcomes, retention, and overall satisfaction significantly (NSSE, 2013). Hence, elevating the value of labs in our final grading will not only honor our work but also align with proven educational benefits.
