Increase the Weightage of Combined Honors Classes to Reflect Their Academic Intensity

The Issue

We are a group of dedicated students who have enrolled in an intensive year-long course that combines Algebra Two Honors with Precalculus Honors. We have been investing significant effort and time in excelling at this challenging curriculum. This course combines two intense courses into one year of study while taking up two periods in a day, almost mirroring the academic rigor of two individual courses.

Despite the intensity of this combined course, it is surprising that the weightage accorded to it is merely 6 points, the same given to regular honors classes and significantly less than 10 points given to Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Considering that this combined course amounts to tackling two academic disciplines, we firmly believe that the weightage should be appropriately increased, reflecting the intensity and rigor of the course.

We propose an increase from 6 to 12 points to reflect twice the workload and difficulty. We are willing to negotiate this to 10 points, the same as AP classes if necessary. This change would not only appropriately reward the time and effort students devote to this integrated class but also validate the academic challenge it presents.

Today, we call upon the educational authorities to pay heed to our plea and revise the weightage of our combined Algebra II Honors and Precalculus Honors course from 6 points to 12 points. Let's value academic rigor accurately; sign this petition to support this change.
