The Issue

I'm so grateful to receive a pension from the government, but R2400 a month is simply not enough to cover basic living expenses. Like many pensioners in South Africa, I struggle to pay my rates and taxes, as well as water and electricity bills, with this amount. The cost of living continues to rise, making it harder for us to maintain a decent standard of living.

SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) currently provides a pension of R2400 per month to millions of elderly citizens across the country. While this support is appreciated, it falls short of meeting the needs of South Africa's senior citizens. According to Statistics South Africa, the inflation rate has averaged around 4.5% in recent years, yet pension adjustments are often minimal and do not reflect the increasing costs of essentials such as food, healthcare, and utilities.

A fair increase in SASSA pensions would make a significant difference in the lives of pensioners, ensuring they can live with dignity and security in their retirement years. To achieve this, we urge the South African government and related authorities to revise the pension amount to reflect the true cost of living. A proposed increase to a minimum of R3500 per month would help alleviate the financial strain experienced by many senior citizens.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a much-needed change that will positively impact the lives of countless pensioners across South Africa. Please join us in advocating for an increased pension amount, which aligns more fairly with the current economic conditions in our country. Together, we can improve the quality of life for our elders, showing them the respect and care they deserve. Sign this petition to stand up for a brighter future for South African pensioners.
