The Issue

As a parent navigating daily life with my daughter, I have come to understand the challenges many families face due to a lack of child parking spaces. Regularly, we struggle to find appropriate parking that accommodates the safe unloading of children and prams. This observation is not exclusive to my family but affects countless families across the country. Data from the Child Accident Prevention Trust reveal that children under the age of 5 are most likely to be injured in car parks. This reinforces the need for child parking spaces, which provide extra room for maneuvering, thus reducing the risk of injury (Child Accident Prevention Trust, UK).

By implementing more child parking spaces, we enhance the safety of our children and lessen the stress on parents who are just trying to go about their everyday activities. Marriott’s multi-storey carpark consists of 5 child parking spaces, the large Woolgate carpark (aka Waitrose carpark) consists of 12 spaces and the open carpark next to Marriott’s consist of 0 child parking spaces. Witney is a fast growing town with more and more houses being built with lots of families with young children moving to the area.
Therefore, this petition requests that local councils and commercial property owners increase the provision of child parking spaces in public areas. Through this initiative, we can ensure child safety and parental peace of mind. Please sign this petition to show your support for increasing the number of child parking spaces.
