I am a resident of Calgary, AB, Canada who has experienced firsthand the impact of stringent speed limits. In my younger years, I received multiple traffic tickets that have had a profound and lasting effect on my record with motor vehicle insurance companies. This experience feels unjust and immoral, especially with the cost of premiums consistently on the rise thus far.

Calgary is known for its wide roads and efficient infrastructure. However, our city's maximum legal speed limit remains lower than many other comparable cities in Canada. According to Transport Canada's statistics, most urban areas in our country have higher average speed limits (source: Transport Canada). 

The current low-speed limit not only contributes to unnecessary traffic congestion, resulting in a decreased amount of personal time which we are all already deprived of, but also leads to an increase in traffic violations which can result in hefty fines, more times spent in traffic court, and increased insurance premiums for residents like you and I. 

By raising the maximum legal speed limit on our city roads, we can improve traffic flow efficiency, gain time back by not spending it in traffic, and reducing the  number of speeding tickets issued to help save funds for other priorities. 

We urge the local government of Calgary to consider this proposal seriously. It is time we adapt our road regulations to better reflect modern driving conditions while ensuring safety remains paramount.
