Increase the Grading Curve for AP Physics I Assessments in SFHS

Increase the Grading Curve for AP Physics I Assessments in SFHS
The Issue
Like many students at SFHS, we find ourselves overwhelmed and stressed with the challenges posed by the current AP Physics I course. It has become apparent to us that some of our educators, who shall remain unnamed, struggle to effectively impart the course material. This deficiency in instruction has created an undue strain on the student body and has significantly impacted our academic performance.
Physics require a deep understanding of complex theories and concepts, and as AP students, we are up to the task. However, when teaching methods fall short, it becomes significantly more challenging for students to master the material. We, the student body of SFHS beseech the administration to increase the curve on all AP Physics I assessments to account for these teaching shortcomings. This is not a refusal to learn but a plea for a fair chance.
The U.S National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) shows a measurably lower score in physics compared to other sciences. This suggests that the issue we are facing isn't localized, but a broader, nationwide problem (Source: National Center for Education Statistics, 2015 NAEP Report). By adjusting the grading curve, the administration would provide a cushion that assists students to meet the expectations of such a rigorous course, and would align SFHS’s procedures with adaptations being made in numerous schools across the country.
We call upon SFHS's administration to honor their commitment to providing versatile, balanced education that prepares students for future endeavors. Please support us in our quest for education equity by signing this petition. Together, we can foster a more friendly academic environment for all.
