I, like many others residing in Ireland, have been struggling to secure a Schengen visa appointment. Unfortunately, booking an appointment independently has become almost impossible due to the limited availability. This scarcity has led to a surge in illegal black market sales of appointments, which is not only unethical but also puts individuals at risk.

Ensuring timely access to Schengen Area visa appointments is not only essential for tourism but also critical for business and transit travel. Unfortunately, the current system falls short in meeting the overwhelming demand, hindering the mobility of countless individuals.

We urgently urge the relevant authorities—The Department of Foreign Affairs, The Department of Justice and Equality in Ireland and The European Commission—to address this issue. By increasing the number of available appointments and regulating the appointment booking process, we can ensure fair access for all applicants and reduce illicit practices related to visa applications.
