While allowances under other welfare schemes have increased, the Manabik Pension for persons with disabilities remains only ₹1000. It is time for a fair revision.

Why this petition matters
The Manabik Pension Scheme of the Government of West Bengal provides a monthly assistance of ₹1000 to persons with disabilities. This scheme has been a crucial support for many individuals who face physical challenges and limited employment opportunities.

However, in recent times the Government of West Bengal has increased the financial assistance in several other social welfare schemes, including Lakshmir Bhandar and others. Unfortunately, the allowance under the Manabik Pension Scheme has remained meagre.

For persons with disabilities, the cost of living is often higher than that of an average citizen. Medical treatment, assistive devices, therapy, transportation, and daily care create additional financial burdens. In the current economic situation, ₹1000 per month is simply insufficient to meet even the most basic needs.

Why an increase is necessary

1. Rising Cost of Living
   Prices of essential commodities, medicines, and services have increased significantly over the years.
2. Additional Disability-related Expenses
   Persons with disabilities often require medical care, physiotherapy, assistive devices, and special transportation.
3. Equity in Social Welfare
   When allowances under other schemes are increased, it is only fair and humane that persons with disabilities are not left behind.
4. Dignity and Inclusion
   Adequate financial support helps persons with disabilities live with dignity and participate more actively in society.

Our Demand
We respectfully urge the Government of West Bengal to:

• Increase the monthly allowance under the Manabik Pension Scheme to a more realistic amount (at least ₹5000 per month), and
• Ensure periodic revision of the allowance in line with inflation and living costs.

A Call for Compassion and Justice
Persons with disabilities are among the most vulnerable sections of our society. A welfare state must ensure that they receive adequate support, dignity, and equal consideration in public policy.

We appeal to the Government of West Bengal to take this matter seriously and revise the Manabik Pension allowance at the earliest.

✔ মানবিক পেনশনের ভাতা বৃদ্ধি করা হোক
✔ অন্তত ₹৫০০০ করা হোক
✔ ভবিষ্যতে নিয়মিত সংশোধনের ব্যবস্থা করা হোক
