As residents of Wesley Chapel, a place we chose as to start a family, we've witnessed a disturbing trend. Despite a significant population growth, the police and highway patrol presence hasn't expanded to meet the increased demand. With this growth, there's been a marked increase in accidents and fatalities, indicative of a deep-seated problem that needs urgent attention. 

Speeding and reckless driving are not just traffic violations but a looming threat to the lives of our community members. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities nationwide involve speeding. This issue can no longer be ignored or downplayed in our community.

We believe a stronger police presence and an increased highway patrol could be a significant step in monitoring and lessening these negligent driving behaviors. A reduction in these behaviors equates to safer roads and fewer lives lost senselessly.

We urge our city council and Florida Highway Patrol to invest more resources into our growing area. Increase the number of officers patrolling our neighborhoods and highways, and implement effective measures that promote safer driving practices and discourage speeding.

It's a matter of public safety, a matter of life, and it directly affects each one of us living, working, and raising our families in Wesley Chapel. It's time to initiate change.
