Increase Police Presence in South East Oakville to Combat Rising Crime Rates
The Issue
As parents raising young children in South East Oakville, we have always appreciated the safety and security of our community. However, recent times have seen a disturbing increase in criminal activities, particularly break-ins between Winston Churchill and Chartwell, south of Cornwall Road. This surge is not just a statistic; it's a threat to our peaceful lives and the future of our children.
As significant contributors to the local economy through taxes, we believe it is only fair that we demand better security measures for our community. Our neighbourhood was once known for its safety - let's ensure that reputation isn't lost.
According to Statistics Canada (2019), there has been significant overall rise in property crime rates across Ontario. This trend seems to be reflected in our own backyard.
In response to this pressing issue, we hereby petition for an immediate and substantial increase in police presence in our neighborhood, particularly from dusk until dawn. We request the following immediate and substantial increase in police patrols in South East Oakville, specifically in the area between Winston Churchill and Chartwell, south of Cornwall Road. Enhanced police visibility during critical hours, from dusk until dawn, to deter criminal activities and ensure the safety of our homes and families. Transparent communication from local authorities regarding the actions being taken to address the security concerns in our community.
We believe that our community deserves more than promises of safety; we demand concrete action that reflects the considerable property taxes we contribute to the local coffers. By signing this petition, we express our collective voice and call on our elected officials, including Anita Anand, Stephen Crawford, Mayor Rob Burton, Councillor Haslett-Theall, and Councillor Gittings, to prioritize the safety and well-being of South East Oakville residents.
We urge our representatives to act swiftly and decisively to address this urgent matter and restore a sense of security in our neighborhood.
