Increase Police Presence and Enforcement in Bridgeport, CT for Resident Safety
The Issue
As a member of the LGBTQ community living in Bridgeport, CT, I am constantly living in fear during the night hours. I have been a victim of assault within our community and recently experienced vandalism to my personal property and vehicle. Unfortunately, my story is not unique. Many other residents have also been victims of criminal activity on their properties, with our property management failing to provide adequate support for our safety.
Bridgeport is home to over 144,000 residents (U.S Census Bureau), yet we are plagued by high crime rates that put us all at risk. According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCRP), Bridgeport has a higher crime rate than 96% of other U.S cities. This includes violent crimes such as assault and property crimes like vandalism.
The lack of police visibility and enforcement within our community only exacerbates this issue. We need more police patrols during all hours but especially at night when most criminal activities occur.
We call upon the local government officials and law enforcement agencies in Bridgeport to increase police visibility, patrol frequency, and enforcement within our community for everyone's safety. The safety of all residents should be a top priority regardless of who we are or where we live.
Please sign this petition if you believe that everyone deserves to feel safe in their own neighborhood.
