Animal cruelty is not given the justice it rightfully deserves. We need to treat it as the serious and impactful crime that it is, as proven by research where animal cruelty often precedes crimes against humans (“The Link between Animal Abuse and Human Violence,” 2019). The punishment for taking an innocent animal's life needs to reflect the gravity of this act. Therefore, I am urging for a change in legislation that increases the penalties for killing an animal.
